This is one of my personal favorite concept pieces.

I tried to take the fierce qualities of a lion and wrap it in the body of a fish, substituting the hair of the mane for fins. I also have a deep love for the ocean have always been fascinated with the stories of old mariners and oceanic cultures that talk of fantastic sea creatures.

While working on this piece, I tried to carefully develop the rhythms and flow of the spines in the fins to lead the eye around smoothly.

My only regret is that I made the tail too thin for most of its length. My end goal was to create a creature that could be aquatic equivalent of a Dragon.

I designed it on paper with pencil, cleaned up the lines in india ink, scanned and set up selection sets in photoshop, and added texture in Painter.

All design oriented feedback would be welcome.
